Aquadome remains closed while city waits on inspection results

Feb. 6—The Aquadome recreation center remains closed this week while city officials wait on an independent contractor to find if there's a gas leak or other problem in the building.

The city hired Enervolv Corp. to find out if there's a problem, but Parks and Recreation Director Jason Lake said today they didn't get a key piece of equipment needed to determine any problems in the building until Friday.

Lake said he hopes to receive results from the inspection sometime this week. The city had expected the Aquadome to reopen last week.

A Jan. 27 email from Parks and Recreation to Decatur Swim Team members and adults who use the pool for fitness activities said the pool would be closed because Decatur Youth Service "has stated that they still smell gas in the building and have ever since we did the repairs on it the last time."

However, a Building Department inspector didn't find a problem so the city hired the consultant to see if there is an issue. The city closed the pool, recreation center and DYS offices until the issue is resolved.
