TORONTO (AP) _ Aptose Biosciences Inc. (APTO) on Tuesday reported a loss of $14.7 million in its fourth quarter.

On a per-share basis, the Toronto-based company said it had a loss of 17 cents.

The results did not meet Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 16 cents per share.

For the year, the company reported that its loss widened to $55.2 million, or 67 cents per share.

In the final minutes of trading on Tuesday, the company's shares hit $3.67. A year ago, they were trading at $5.27.
