General Motors April US sales up 11 percent on strong demand for Silverado pickup

DETROIT (AP) -- General Motors Co. said Wednesday that its April U.S. sales rose 11 percent, led by strong demand for the Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.

BY THE NUMBERS: The Detroit automaker said it sold 237,646 cars and trucks last month, up from 213,387 a year earlier.

TOP SELLERS: Silverado sales rose 28 percent to 39,395. Chevrolet Cruze compact car sales were up 21 percent to 22,032.

HOT MODELS: Chevrolet Tahoe truck-based SUV sales rose 55 percent to 9,052. Chevy Sonic subcompact sales were up 28 percent to 8,151.
