Applications open for PSP Law and Leadership Academy

EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — Applications are now open for the Pennsylvania State Police Law and Leadership Academy. If you have ever considered a career in law enforcement, this opportunity is for you.

The 10-week program offers people a chance to train like a state trooper.

Pennsylvania State Police are actively recruiting individuals who share their commitment to keeping communities safe.

The Law and Leadership Academy is a program designed to strengthen the relationship between law enforcement and those seeking a career in it.

“This program has been so successful we actually run it in three different locations now. We have the Wilkes-Barre location, we have a Hershey location, and we are just starting it up down in Philadelphia this year,” said Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Clint Long.

Participants will get a firsthand look into the process of becoming a trooper through physical training and a curated curriculum.

It’s free to those accepted and is modeled after the police academies that adults attend to become sworn law enforcement officers.

“We obviously can’t do the academy for them, but we can do stuff to help prepare them and alleviate some of the stresses that go along with it,” Trooper Long explained.

The program is for individuals over the age of 18 who have graduated from high school or obtained a GED.

Anyone who lives in northeastern Pennsylvania is encouraged to apply through state police troop n.

“Never in a million years did I see myself being a trooper up until I had somebody take the time to talk to me about becoming a trooper, but I wouldn’t change it for the world,” Trooper Long continued.

Applications for the law and leadership academy are being accepted through April 5.

Anyone interested in attending the program can obtain an application by contacting Master Trooper David L. Peters at dapeters@pa.gov or Pennsylvania State Police recruiters at www.PATROOPER.com
