Appliance deals, rebuilding plans for NY-NJ

NEW YORK (AP) — A business and a nonprofit are teaming to help the hardest-hit storm victims in New York and New Jersey.

At a news conference Tuesday with New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, CEO Lou D'Ambrosio said Sears will offer up to 30 percent discounts on appliances and home services for Zone A residents.

The nonprofit Rebuilding Together announced it will immediately being rebuilding five to 10 homes, focusing on critical repairs, in the most devastated areas of New York and New Jersey.

President and CEO Gary A. Officer said another 100 homes will rehabbed next year and eventually several hundred more.

Sears and Rebuilding Together have partnered previously on homes for wounded soldiers.

Cuomo said it hasn't been determined yet how many homes will have to be replaced.
