Apple starts shipping 30-pin dock port adapters

Apple Lightning cable’s ‘mystery’ chip provides weaker security than a printer cartridge’s

Good news for the first people who forked over $29 for iPhone 5 dock port adapters: you’ll be getting them in the mail shortly. MacRumors reports that Apple (AAPL) has sent out notices to customers who ordered 30-pin port adapters that they have started shipping and will be arriving shortly. In the case of one MacRumors reader, Apple has projected that the dock port adapter will arrive on October 9th. It will likely be some time before any third-party manufacturers start pushing out cheaper dock port adapters of their own since Apple has told its OEM partners that they’ll need to go through a special seminar and get permission from Apple before they can push out their own accessories.
