Apple reportedly ramps up iPad mini production ahead of October launch

Apple reportedly ramps up iPad mini production ahead of October launch

Apple (AAPL) has yet to confirm the existence of its “iPad mini,” but a new report suggests the company is already planning for a blockbuster launch. Citing unnamed sources within Apple’s supply chain, Digitimes on Tuesday reported that production of Apple’s shrunken slate will ramp up to 4 million units per month beginning in September ahead of a rumored October launch. The site’s sources said that the 7.85-inch iPad entered low-volume production this past June and that Apple is expecting big sales ahead of the holidays. The iPad mini may be unveiled alongside Apple’s “iPhone 5” during a press conference next month, and it is expected to retail for $249 or $299.
