The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reported the recall, which was issued voluntarily by Martinelli’s, on April 16. Read on for more details, including exactly which products the recall includes and what to do if you’ve purchased them

Martinelli's Apple Juice Recall

The recalled juice has been sold at various grocery stores, including Kroger, Publix, Target, Winn-Dixie, and Whole Foods. Specific information about the Martinelli's Apple Juice that's been recalled is below:

  • 1-liter bottles with a best by date of March 9, 2026, or March 10, 2026.

The product was sent to stores between March 13, 2023 and September 27, 2023, with most of the product having been shipped before July 28, 2023.

Arsenic Contamination

The recall comes after researchers in Maryland found that samples tested above the guidance level for inorganic arsenic in juice. The samples showed 11.6 parts per billion of inorganic arsenic, which is above the industry action level set forth in the new FDA guidelines by 1.6 parts per billion. Exposure to high levels of arsenic can be extremely dangerous with side effects including cancer, birth defects, diabetes, and heart issues.

Though no illnesses related to the product have been reported to date, check your fridges anyways to make sure you don't have a carton of the recalled juice hiding behind the milk. It's better to be safe than sorry!
