'View' host Meghan McCain on her 'horrible' grief: 'I’m in therapy, I’m in counseling'

Meghan McCain is still reeling from her father's death, about five months ago. The "View" co-host opened up about her unrelenting grief in a new interview with Porter.

“It’s horrible,” said McCain, the daughter of Sen.John McCain. “I’m in therapy, I’m in counseling, I’m reading Joan Didion – books and books about grief, doing everything I possibly can. I’m trying to meditate – I’m terrible at it.”

Features director Vassi Chamberlain, who conducted the interview, notes McCain's "Tears start, then stop, and will continue doing so pretty much throughout our meeting."

McCain said she used to call her dad up to seven times daily.

“I wake up groggy sometimes and have this impulse to call him, which I have done… but he’s not answering,” she said.

"I feel like I’ve lost a part of my body, like I’ve had something amputated," said McCain, 34. "I know that sounds dramatic.”

Meghan McCain, in Washington DC in November, has spoken about the loss of her father to Porter.

As for her eulogy delivered in September, she says her father would've approved.

“I know he would have loved it. I know it sounds strange. But when I got up and walked to the lectern, I saw his casket and... I felt him with me.”

In her speech, McCain fired off at Trump's "Make America Great Again" slogan, while the president's daughter Ivanka and her husband, Jared Kushner, were in the audience, to McCain's surprise.

"The America of John McCain has no need to be made great again because America was always great," McCain said during her speech, which included additional jabs at the commander in chief, who did not receive an invite.

“I didn’t know (Ivanka and Jared) were coming; I didn’t know until I saw them there,” McCain told Porter, adding she has "no idea" if the couple were actually invited.

“I looked over and saw them and well… they got to listen to what I had to say,” McCain said, unapologetically.
