In the week since Season Three of Stranger Things dropped on Netflix, fans have not only binged all eight episodes, but tirelessly dug into the big cliffhanger's that the finale left us with. Is Hopper really dead? What happened to Eleven's powers? Who is "The American?"

Through it all, something strange has been happening on David Harbour's Instagram. He's spent the last week changing his Instagram profile picture to a series of numbers, which fans have realised coincide with Murray Bauman's phone number from the show: 618-625-8313.

Now, as fans on Reddit found, anyone who called that number while it was activated over the weekend, you got a message from Murray:

Hi, you have reached the residence of Murray Bauman. Mom, if this is you, please hang up and call me between the hours of 5 and 6 p.m. as previously discussed, okay? If this is Joyce, Joyce, thank you for calling, I have been trying to reach ya. I have an update. It’s about, well, it’s probably best if we speak in person. It’s not good or bad, but it’s something…

So...what does this mean?

It seems to be a message intended for Joyce after the events of Season Three. As we know, Murray and Joyce were both inside the Russian facility when Hopper sacrificed himself for the door to the Upside Down to be closed.

As we've already theorised, it's entirely possible that Hopper somehow made it out alive, by either traveling through the door to the facility back in Russia or by getting trapped in the Upside Down.

Is it possible that Murray has found out what has happened to Hopper? Why can't they speak in person, unless Murray has discovered that Hopper has been captured by the Russians and is afraid they're onto him and are listening to his calls?

We don't know anything for sure, but it's just another small clue that points to the actual fate of Hopper.
