'Fortnite' Is Now Worth More Than a Billion Dollars

There is little doubt that Fornite is insanely popular. Millions of people play the game daily on PC, iOS devices, and various consoles, and it generates a staggering amount of money from those players to reach a point few games ever reach. And it did it all in less than a year.

A new report from market research firm Superdata released on Tuesday estimates that Fortnite made more than a $1 billion from October 2017 to May of this year. Titled “Battle Royale: Taking the Games Market by Storm,” the report gives some insight on how dominating battle royale games have become since the release since they came into the market with early titles such as DayZ and H1Z1 then with later titles that include PUBG and of course, Fortnite.

'Fortnite' Revenue Since October 2017

Not only are battle royale games making big bank for developers, it’s making a killing on Twitch. Superdata found more than 30 million viewers on the streaming platform watched approximately 600 million hours of Fortnite since last October to May.

With close to 700 million hours watched on Twitch, battle royale games are huge, but as the report suggested, there are still opportunities for the industry. Later this year, both the Call of Duty and Battlefield series will release their version of a battle royale game. That’s two well-known franchises from major publishers with a lot of money behind them. As big as it is now, it could go even bigger.

If this trend continues, Fortnite will easily surpass the most well-known franchises to become the most valuable name in gaming. Also, Epic Games still has yet to release the game on Android, which will open the game to new customers and bring even more money.

Another way for Epic to make even more money in Fortnite is by adding a gifting system, which some data miners found proof of that very feature coming soon to the game.
