APD investigating homicide in downtown Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin Police said Saturday that officers were investigating a homicide near downtown Austin.

According to APD, the investigation occurred near the 90 block of Red River Street.

Delays should be expected in and around the area while officers work.

During a press conference, APD said 911 received multiple calls about gunshots heard at approximately 6:30 a.m. Officers responded shortly after, and a victim was found.

APD said life-saving measures were given to the victim, but the man later died at the hospital.

As of the time of the conference, there were no suspects in custody, and homicide detectives and crime scene specialists were still at the scene. The investigation remains ongoing.

According to police, this incident was being investigated as Austin’s 17th homicide of 2024.
