APD: Amarillo police's CIRT response at N. Roosevelt ends; suspect still at large
The Amarillo Police Department (APD) ended their search for a possibly barricaded suspect Wednesday evening after alerting the public to avoid the area.
On May 8, at about 3:45 p.m., officers attempted to serve two felony arrest warrants on a person known to reside in the 1200 block of North Roosevelt, APD said. Through investigations, officers learned that the wanted individual was reportedly inside a residence with access to a firearm. A CIRT (Critical Incident Response Team) callout was then initiated.
Once at the scene, "callouts were conducted and negotiators began communications with the suspect," an update from APD said. A chemical agent was introduced into the residence and cameras deployed into storage areas, and officers entered the building. However, there was no sign of the suspect inside the residence or on the property, according to APD, after a thorough search was conducted. The suspect remains at large.
This investigation is ongoing. The area has since reopened for regular traffic.
