Apartment complexes on the rise

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — With apartment complexes going up all over Grand Junction, it shouldn’t be too hard to find a place. Property Manager at Bray Real Estate Cindy Hoppe says there’s about 1175 units currently slated to be opening within the next few months.

Most of those units are one and two-bedroom apartments. She says the one-bedroom apartments are going from $1,400 up to $1,800, and the two-bedrooms are starting in the $1,600 a month and going up to the $2,000 a month. Hoppe says the reason they’re priced so high is because of the big town kind of amenities they will offer like rooftop firepits and areas, covered parking and swimming pools.

But renters are also running into waiting lists that sometimes stretch out as far as six months. The question is, why? It’s because the people that are moving here are used to having those kinds of amenities, so they’re okay with being put on a waitlist so they get what they’re used to.

Older places are also renting high right now because there’s still a lack of available apartments, but those prices could also drop as more units become available to rent.
