AP PHOTOS: Clashes set Kiev square aflame

Anti-government protesters in the Ukrainian capital fought back Tuesday with rocks, bats and fire bombs against police trying to clear their tent camp in Kiev's Independence Square.

Flames from burning barricades licked the night sky as police fired stun grenades and water cannons to push away protesters. At least 18 people died in the clashes, and hundreds were injured.

The battle in the square follows months of protests, most recently over whether President Viktor Yanukovych is honoring their demands or dragging his feet on constitutional reforms that would limit his powers.

Here's a gallery of images from today's ongoing clashes.
