PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Maine's blunt-speaking Republican governor has sent an email to every state worker to clarify his offhanded remark that government middle managers are "about as corrupt as can be."
Paul LePage offered no apologies in his email Friday to more than 11,000 state workers and state lawmakers. He says that great work is being done by thousands of state employees but that some union bosses and state workers are intent on maintaining the status quo.
He referred to that as "corruption" and said it's time for those who're dragging their feet on his administration's initiatives to "get on board or get out of the way."
The email went out hours after his remark was published in Maine newspapers. He says he wants workers to know the "full meaning" of his remark.
