A Michigan man sent death threats to multiple Jewish politicians in the state but was arrested before he could carry out any violence, federal authorities said. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said Thursday morning that she was one of his targets.

“The FBI has confirmed I was a target of the heavily armed defendant in this matter,” Nessel wrote on Twitter. “It is my sincere hope that the federal authorities take this offense just as seriously as my Hate Crimes & Domestic Terrorism Unit takes plots to murder elected officials.”

Jack Carpenter III, 41, tweeted several antisemitic threats referencing Michigan leaders in February, the feds said.

“I’m heading back to Michigan now threatening to carry out the punishment of death to anyone that is Jewish in the Michigan [government] if they don’t leave, or confess,” Carpenter wrote in a Feb. 17 tweet, according to authorities. He was in Texas at the time.

Carpenter’s mother alerted police that he possessed three handguns, two hunting rifles and a shotgun, according to a criminal complaint. Cops arrested him in Texas on Feb. 21.

At Carpenter’s first court appearance on Wednesday, prosecutors argued for him to remain behind bars without bail.

“When the defendant was arrested in his vehicle, they found approximately a half dozen firearms and ammunition,” said federal prosecutor Hank Moon, before later mentioning Carpenter’s belief he is a sovereign citizen. “Without getting into too much detail, the defendant does not believe he is subject to the jurisdiction of this court.”
