Anthony ISD receives national award for reducing vaping in schools

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Anthony Independent School District (AISD) is being recognized for its effort to reduce teen vaping in their schools.

The presentation of the award will be from 9:40 a.m. to 10:20 a.m. on Thursday, April 18 at the Anthony High School Auditorium.

AISD has been selected to receive the Soteria National Leadership Award, a recognition for organizations that use technology and strategies to reduce vaping, according to the news release from AISD.

In September 2022, AISD installed vape sensors throughout Anthony Middle School and Anthony High School. These vape sensors activate upon vape emission and send a notification to admins, according to AISD.

“Efforts to reduce vaping are not merely about enforcing rules; they are about protecting the health, potential, and promise of every young person in our care,” said Oscar A. Troncoso, AISD superintendent.
