(FOX40.COM) — The US Postal Service further immortalized the work of legendary photographer Ansel Adams with the unveiling of the Ansel Adams Forever Stamp collection.

On Wednesday, a First Issue ceremony was held in Yosemite National Park, one of Adams’ most beloved subjects, outside of The Ansel Adams Gallery.

Hundreds attended the event that included words from Adams’ former assistant Alan Ross and Adams’ grandson Matthew Adams.

The 16 set collection includes several iconic images of the American West that Adams captured during his over 40 year photography career.

One of those images, ‘Oak Tree, Sunset City,’ was captured in the current day Rocklin neighborhood of Whitney Oaks in 1962.

Adams was hired to capture a series of images for a developer looking to build a planned 100,000 resident development that would have been known as Sunset City.

The 22 photos Adams created for the project, including ‘Oak Tree, Sunset City,’ are now in the archives of the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento.

The stamps are sold at local post offices and on the postal service’s website.
