Annual Girl Scout Cookie and Beer pairing kicked off in Jenkins Township

JENKINS TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Dozens at a local brewer enjoyed the malty taste of beer paired with the sweet taste of Girl Scout cookies Sunday.

Back by popular demand for the third year in a row, Susquehanna Brewing Company (SBC) in Jenkins Township served up a flight of beers paired with specific Girl Scout cookies.

Among the four choices were Sunny Spot and the shortbread cookie Trefoils, along with most people’s favorite of the day, Revenge of the Muffin Man, and Toast-yay! making the perfect blueberry french toast combination.

It was a combination that went beyond just the perfect Sunday snack.

SBC workers and the Girl Scouts say it makes for a great entrepreneurship experience.

The beer and cookies were a pair one man says he hasn’t got his full of this year.

“I haven’t had nearly enough of both in the past two years so thought I mix it up. Hundreds of years of history here along with hundreds of years for the Girl Scouts. It’s just a natural combination,” said Throop resident Neil Finch.

“The Girl Scout Cookie program is something that helps girls with entrepreneurship and so seeing it interact with the small business is really good because it gives you a better idea of how that stuff actually works and it also helps to support them,” a girl scout explained.

One of the next stops to get your Girl Scout cookies in our area will be at Larry O’Malia’s Farm and Greenhouses in Plains Township on Palm Sunday, March 24.
