Annual Freeman Health Academy offers training, job shadow opportunities

Apr. 15—The deadline to apply for the annual Freeman Health Academy is May 31.

There will be three sessions this year — June 24-28, July 8-12 and July 22-26 at Freeman Hospital West, 1102 W. 32nd St.

High school students interested in health care careers will be given an opportunity to experience the daily activities of health care providers as they make their daily rounds throughout Freeman Hospital West. They will also receive health care-related outreach activities and educational opportunities.

The academy is designed for students between the ages of 16 and 20.

Last year, 26 students from nearly a dozen area school districts from three states received hands-on training in activities ranging from a simulated trauma patient treatment scenario to CPR certification, from a detailed hospital tour that included the helicopter pad and ambulance bay to job shadowing of various hospital department personnel.
