Animals, including 17 dogs, seized from home in Coaldale, police say

State police and Coaldale police seized 17 Great Pyrenees dogs, two cats, two birds and one turtle at a home in Coaldale, police said.

At 3 p.m. Monday, acting on a search warrant, law enforcement went to the residence, which was not identified, and found the animals in a state of “severe neglect,” according to a news release from state police at Hamburg.

The animals showed signs of malnutrition, had untreated medical problems and were in poor living conditions, according to police.

An investigation is ongoing, and charges are pending against the property owner, whom police did not identify.

However, a 69-year-old woman is involved in the case, according to police.

State police and Coaldale police are working with the Pennsylvania SPCA to ensure that the animals receive the proper veterinary care, police said.

The animal control liaison for state police Troop L, which includes Schuylkill County, is Trooper Max E. Seiler, of the Hamburg station.

Coaldale Police Chief Joseph Krebs was also an investigating officer in the case.
