Animal Welfare's Westside shelter will be closed Monday

May 16—The Animal Welfare Department's West Side shelter will be closed for admissions and reclaims on Monday, May 20, due to an electrical box being installed for a new HVAC system. The shelter will resume normal operations the following day, the agency said in a news release.

If needed, the Eastside shelter, 8920 Lomas NE, admission desk will be open for emergency admission of stray animals from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. AWD will only accept emergency intake of stray animals, meaning animals in need of medical treatment or that may pose a risk to public safety. No appointment is necessary for emergency admissions.

The Eastside shelter will accept non-emergency stray pets by appointment only. Anyone who finds a stray pet should schedule an appointment.
