Angels Across America visits the Midstate

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – They drive all across America to bring awareness to the country’s drug epidemic.

Saturday, they were in Mechanicsburg.

Angels Across America was founded by Leslie Smith after he lost a child to overdose.

He and others travel the country, working to help grieving parents and bring families who have lost loved ones together.

“It fills my hole of grief,” Smith said. “It gives me a purpose that I never thought, at my age, 67 and retired, this is what I’d be doing, but I get a lot of fulfillment out of it, knowing that I am putting together groups of people.”

The organization also works to provide life-saving tools, including Narcan training.

Saturday’s stop was one of 15 so far for Smith, and he’s logged 5,000 miles thus far.
