Angela Sutkiewicz becomes first Sheboygan County judge to win Trial Judge of the Year
SHEBOYGAN - Sheboygan County Circuit Court Judge Angela Sutkiewicz has been named Trial Judge of the Year by the Wisconsin Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates.
Sutkiewicz is the first Sheboygan judge to receive the honor, accepting the award at a ceremony at the Wisconsin Club in Milwaukee on Nov. 3.
A news release said the award is presented each year to a member of the Wisconsin judiciary “whose thorough preparation, breadth of knowledge of the law, decisive rulings and courtesy to litigants, jurors and members of the bar have consistently advanced the interest of justice and the dignity of the judicial process.”
Past winners of ABOTA’s Trial Judge of the Year Award include former Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Patrick Crooks and federal judge William Griesbach.
Sutkiewicz is a judge for Sheboygan County, Branch 3, in Wisconsin. She was first appointed to the position in 2010, won election to a full six-year term in 2011 and was re-elected without opposition in 2017.

A news release said, “Sutkiewicz shares in ABOTA’s commitment to quality legal representation and the importance of the jury trial system.”
“I really believe that we have the best legal system in the world and we couldn’t do it without jurors giving their time for this significant civic duty,” Sutkiewicz said in the release.
As Trial Judge of the Year, Sutkiewicz presided over the State Bar of Wisconsin’s 31st Annual Institute of Trial Practice held on Nov. 4. This State Bar seminar, co-produced with the Wisconsin Chapter of ABOTA, is a 10-hour continuing legal education program showcasing a civil trial from opening to closing.
