Angela Lee aims to make MMA history

Angela Lee does not care how she wins, as long as it is in the shortest time possible.

The 19-year-old mixed martial arts (MMA) star is three days away from the biggest fight of her career against Japanese counterpart Mei Yamaguchi, 33, in the inaugural ONE Women’s Atomweight World Championship.

Lee has won all five of her fights since making her professional debut with Singapore-based MMA promotion ONE Championship a year ago and is “100 per cent” focused on making it six in a row in this historic all-female headlining clash at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on 6 May.

“I think everyone loves a good girl fight - it’ll be a pretty big draw, you know?” she chuckled during an event at Clarke Quay on Tuesday.

“I’m just going to finish this fight as fast as possible and I’m going to take whatever I see – whether that be a knockout, TKO (technical KO) or submission, I’ll find out Friday night.”

Brazilian jiu-jitsu master Roger Gracie, who comes from a prominent martial arts family, will take on Pole Michal Pasternak in the co-main event, the ONE Light Heavyweight World Championship.

“It’s a great honour to represent my family and I’m sure they will be proud of me,” he said. “When we were growing up as kids, our main concern was how to make each other proud; it was never about individual [glory].”
