Angela Gray recognized by public school district, named Library Paraprofessional of the Year

May 21—Angela Gray from Aiken Intermediate School has been named Librarian Paraprofessional of the Year by the South Carolina Association of School Libraries. She was recognized for this achievement during Tuesday's Aiken County Public School District Board of Education meeting.

Gray was joined at the meeting by Aiken Intermediate School Principal Denise McCray, her husband Ken Gray, Aiken Intermediate School Media Specialist Cheryl Curtis and Aiken Intermediate School teacher Jessica Goss.

This library paraprofessional award is given to recognize the performance of a paraprofessional who directly supports the school library profession at building or district level. Gray operates all facets of the day-to-day operations of Aiken Intermediate's library, enabling the school's Media Specialist, Cheryl Curtis, to focus on long-term planning and program development.

Curtis, who has been working alongside Gray for a decade, said: "I will say with all honesty that she is my right and left hand on most days. I couldn't do the job without her."

Gray is a member of SCASL, and serves on the board representing paraprofessionals from throughout South Carolina. She is currently participating in the Children's Book Council Favorite Books Program.

Gray said this recognition was "quite an honor."

"I'm just extremely proud of her," said her husband Ken Gray. "I volunteer in the library on occasional basis and every time I go in there I'm just thoroughly impressed by how professional and how well she does her job."
