Anderson .Paak: "We Did 'Malibu' on a Mac Mini With an Old Dented Mic"

Anderson .Paak's excellent sophomore album Malibu was one of our favorite projects from the first half of 2016—but it turns out it wasn't the product of the most technologically advanced equipment in the world.

"We did #Malibu on a Mac mini with an old dented mic off struggle tree and frontu leaf," he revealed on Twitter this week. "We knew things would get better but damn!"

Of course, under the wing of an audiophile like Dr. Dre, it's likely those recordings went under rigorous transformation and mixing using advanced equipment, but the underlying message is there: The barriers to create incredible music in 2016 are much lower than they once were. Now, excuse me while I fire up Ableton and dust off this USB mic.

Hear what that Mac Mini was able to produce below (and hats off to DJ Booth for the find).
