Anderson man murdered in Marion

Mar. 12—ANDERSON — A Marion 13-year-old was arrested on preliminary charges of robbery and murder in the shooting death of Byron Otis Dennis Jr., 24, on Monday.

Marion police were dispatched at about 8 p.m. to a convenience store on a report of a person shot, according to a press release.

When Marion police and Grant County Sheriff's deputies arrived they found Dennis lying on the ground at the entrance to the store with a gunshot wound to his chest.

Dennis was transported to Marion Health Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Officers identified a 13-year-old suspect after reviewing in-store video surveillance of the incident.

The suspect was located at a home in 500 block of East Highland Avenue, near East Charles and North Meridian streets, and taken into custody after officers called over a loudspeaker for the occupants to come out of the house.

The teenager was transported to another county to be detained, Marion police said.
