Mar. 5—Texas voter ballots were heavy with Republican races during the Super Tuesday Primary Election March 5.

State-wide, Trump came in with 78.2% of the vote to Nikki Haley's 17%. On the Texas Democratic ticket, President Joe Biden had 84.8%.

Ted Cruz remains popular in the red party with 88.8% of the vote. This November he will face off with Democrat Colin Allred who garnered 59.2% of votes in his race.

Incumbent candidate Jake Ellzey came in with 61% of the votes in his race against Jame Buford and Cliff Wiley for U.S. House District 6.

In East Texas, incumbent candidate Cody Harris won his Republican party race against candidate Jaye Curtis for District 8 State Representative with 82.8% of the votes.

"Thank you, House District 8, for entrusting me to protect and promote our conservative values in the Texas House of Representatives as your State Representative," Harris said in a social media statement. "I am deeply humbled by your overwhelming support during this Primary Election.

"Be assured that I will continue to fight for our families and our freedoms at the State Capitol — just as you have asked me to do with your vote. I am honored to represent your voices and remain committed to serving you with a passion for doing what's right for our local communities. Now let's be sure to vote red up and down the ballot in November to keep our majority in Texas and boot Biden out of the White House."

Harris will face-off with Democratic opponent Carolyn F. Salter in the fall.

There were several competitive Republican races in the 2024 Anderson County Joint Primary Election.

Incumbent Sheriff Rudy Flores pulled in 5,017 votes (61.99%) to Jeff Taylor's 2,187 votes (27.01%) and Ginger Lively's 892 votes (11%).

"I am humbled and overwhelmed by the confidence and support our community has placed in me," Flores said. "I look forward to serving our county as their Sheriff in my second term."

Incumbent Commissioner Pct. 1 Greg Chapin remains popular in his precinct with 1,421 votes (59.48%) to Clayton Douglas' 590 votes (24.69%) and Preston Massey's 378 (15.82%).

The race for Constable Pct. 3 was close with Allen Ray Hughes receiving 835 votes (39.61%), Alan "Bubba" Fox bringing in 767 votes (36.38%) and Michael D. Mitchell receiving 506 votes (24%). A runoff will be held between Hughes and Fox.

Marvin Jenkins was the front runner for the Constable Pct. 2 race with 612 votes (51.73%) to "Bull" Darrell Meissner's 330 votes (27.89%) and Joe Latham's 241 (20.37%).

All election returns are unofficial until they are canvassed by the political parties.
