Anadarko Petroleum CEO elected to additional position of chairman in line with succession plan
HOUSTON (AP) -- Anadarko Petroleum's CEO is adding chairman to his job title.
The Houston-based energy company said Tuesday that CEO Al Walker has been elected to the additional position, in line with a succession plan. The job starts May 14. He will remain president and CEO.
Walker, 56, will succeed James Hackett.
Walker took over as president and CEO in May 2012, replacing Hackett, after previously serving as chief operating officer.
Anadarko is one of the world's largest independent oil and gas exploration and production companies. It operates in the Rocky Mountain region, the southern U.S., the Appalachian Basin and the Gulf of Mexico. It has international operations in China, Indonesia, New Zealand, Brazil and Africa.
Anadarko's stock price rose $1.55, or 2 percent, to $83.63 in midday trading.
