Amtrak storing some trains in C-U as infrastructure work affects routes

May 23—CHAMPAIGN — The Illinois Terminal will be a temporary terminus for some Amtrak trains amid infrastructure work south of Champaign-Urbana.

Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari said some trains will be stored temporarily in Champaign, with buses serving as replacements.

A service alert on Amtrak's website notes that "due to infrastructure work being performed, Amtrak's Illini and Saluki services will be adjusted."

The changes went into effect Wednesday and affect the services that run between Chicago and Carbondale.

The work south of C-U means the four trains will be affected in the following ways:

* Train 390, the northbound Saluki, which leaves Carbondale at 7:30 a.m., stops in Champaign at 10:24 a.m. and arrives in Chicago at 1 p.m., will be replaced in its entirety by bus service.

* Train 393, the southbound Illini, which leaves Chicago at 4:05 p.m., stops in Champaign at 6:36 p.m. and arrives in Carbondale at 9:35 p.m., will also be replaced in its entirety by bus service.

* Train 391, the southbound Saluki, will leave Chicago at 8:15 a.m. and terminate in Champaign at 10:47 a.m., with passengers continuing south switching to

* buses.

* Train 392, the northbound Illini, will originate in Champaign at 7:05 p.m. and arrive in Chicago at 9:45 p.m., with passengers from points south being bused to the Illinois Terminal.
