Amtrak’s Missouri River Runner to resume service Thursday

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — There’s encouraging news for Amtrak riders in the Show-Me-State.

Amtrak’s Missouri River Runner will be back in business on Thursday after having service interrupted by a weekend derailment.

The majority of Wednesday afternoon rail passengers at Union Station said they were notified of changes in Amtrak reservations by email.

An Amtrak spokesperson tells FOX4 round-trip travel across Missouri will be back on Thursday.

Only a handful of passengers showed up to Union Station without realizing there would be no Wednesday afternoon train travel to St. Louis.

Service had been temporarily canceled after a weekend freight train derailed near Unity Village. A Union Pacific crew was working there on Wednesday afternoon.

For the short run, Amtrak arranged for passengers to travel to St. Louis by bus. Union Pacific’s spokesperson said freight train use on those tracks near Unity Village was restored on Tuesday.

The Missouri River Runner will resume its normal schedules beginning Thursday morning.
