Ames announces comeback; Here’s what we know

(WHTM) — A popular department store that closed all of its locations back in August of 2002, recently announced that it will be officially returning in the years ahead.

Ames Department store has officially planned its big return, according to their now active website.

According to Ames’s website, they now plan to open a total of 35 store locations across the United States. The company goes on to say that June of 2026 is the new scheduled opening date for the first of their new brick-and-mortar Ames locations.

The 35 new stores are planned to open across the United States by late 2027, with additional plans to add more locations during 2028.

Ames says that the new stores will offer the same great prices and better quality, in addition to several other plans:

  • They plan on opening 7 Distribution Centers near their new Ames locations to handle deliveries.

  • Their new Ames website will allow for online ordering and home deliveries.

  • Ames Cafe will be available at all 35 of the new locations.

  • ‘Click & Collect’ will be available from all participating locations.

  • Plans for a Pharmacy have been submitted at participating locations.

abc27 news’s sister station WPRI had previously been told by Ames back in late 2022 that stores would open in CT first before opening in NY and PA. It is important to note that at the time of receiving this information, Ames was still planning its revival for 2023, which did not come to fruition.
