America's 10 Most Stolen Cars of 2023, Is Yours On The List?
The National Insurance Crime Bureau (aka NICB), has updated its list of the most stolen cars in the United States, and some of the results may surprise you. Pickup trucks used to dominate the top of the list, but sedans out of Hyundai and Kia were the top three most stolen cars of 2023. According to the bureau, there was a spike in Hyundai and Kia model thefts due to social media trends highlighting how to steal certain models. In more encouraging news, the NICB also noted that 84% of stolen cars are eventually recovered by law enforcement or through other means, with 34% of them coming back the very same day.
That said, it never hurts to get a steering wheel lock or some other form of security if your car ends up on this list, if for nothing else but some peace of mind. Without further ado, these were the 10 most stolen cars in the U.S. in 2023.
Hyundai Elantra
This is an unfortunate first-place spot to be in, but one car has to take it. The Hyundai Elantra topped the list with 48,445 reported thefts in 2023.
Hyundai Sonata
The Sonata closely followed the Elantra with 42,813 thefts in 2023. No other Hyundai models show up on the NICB list, and the manufacturer is working on anti-theft measures going into this year.
Kia Optima
With 30,204 stolen cars in 2023, the Kia Optima is in third place, the first of four Kia models that show up here.
Chevrolet Silverado 1500
A pickup truck wasn't even in the top three! The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 finally broke the sedan streak with 23,721 reported thefts in 2023, according to the NICB.
Kia Soul
This distinctive Kia model, the Kia Soul, was reported stolen 21,001 times and landed right in the middle of the ranking.

With 20,895 reported thefts in 2023, the Honda Accord narrowly followed the Kia Soul.
Honda Civic
