The American Red Cross partnered with a local non profit to host a blood drive

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — A local non-profit invited Fountain City residents to their facility to donate red cells and blood.

Easterseals is a non-profit that advocates for children and adults with disabilities by providing services that will allow them to have independent lives. The non – profit partnered with the American Red Cross to host blood drives.

WRBL had the chance to speak with Adelaide Kirk, the Regional Disaster Officer for Georgia with the American Red Cross about this partnership.

“Blood drives are huge. I mean, every 2 seconds someone in the US gets a blood transfusion and that’s critical. I mean, that is no one gets a blood transfusion except to save their life. So it’s so important that we have blood on the shelves. So regular blood donation by people is critical to making sure that there’s always blood available when it’s needed.”

Adelaide Kirk, Regional Disaster Officer for Georgia

As a result of this partnership, the American Red Cross is able to host blood drives consistently. This allows for regular blood donors in the fountain city area to give every 56 days and red cell donors to give every 112 days.

Kirk advised that if you can’t donate blood find out who around you can and where a blood drive could be hosted for those who can.
