American Nazis Celebrate Netanyahu's Son Over Meme

Neo-Nazis, from former KKK leader David Duke to the editor of far-right website The Daily Stormer, are lauding the 26-year-old son of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for his posting of a meme that incorporated strong anti-Semitic imagery.

The post on Yair Netanyahu's personal Facebook page, which included Israeli figures involved in working to indict his father on corruption charges, on Saturday night provoked criticism from Israeli politicians and Jewish community leaders in the U.S.

The image appeared to target George Soros, a Jewish-Hungarian billionaire who has funded Israeli organizations opposed to Yair’s father. It apparently shows Soros with the world dangling on the end of a stick, alongside a reptile and a cloaked figure with a crooked nose, an historic anti-Semitic stereotype.

He removed the post a day later after the outcry, but white supremacists quickly jumped on his post and the fact that he is Jewish.

The Daily Stormer, an anti-Semitic website, placed a banner on top of its website declaring itself "The World’s #1 Yair Netanyahu fansite.”

The site, which has proudly referred to itself as "The World’s Most Genocidal Republican Website” and is named in reference to Der Sturmer, a Nazi newspaper, photoshopped a cannabis cigarette and sunglasses onto Netanyahu’s face that adorns the banner in reference to the “Thug Life” meme.

"I stand with Yair and his meme and I’m glad to see that there’s an alt-right in Israel who are standing against the corrosive influence in the West of the Jewish people," Andrew Anglin, the editor of the Daily Stormer, told Israel’s Channel 2 on Tuesday.

"Yair is under attack here. I mean, the man cannot be judged by his father, the man is being attacked by everyone in the world,” he said.

“All the American Jews are coming out and attacking him, all these leftist Israeli papers are calling him an anti-Semite. I’m defending Yair Netanyahu because he stood up against the Jews,” he continued.

The site had initially celebrated the post with an article entitled “Netanyahu’s Son Posts Awesome Meme Blaming The Jews For Bringing Down His Jew Father.” The article could go on to say that Netanyahu is a “total bro” for posting the anti-Semitic imagery. “Next he’s going [sic] call for gassings,” it said.

Daily Stormer is struggling to stay online, with both GoDaddy, Google and even an Austrian domain registry dropping or rejecting domain hosting for the hate-filled page.

Benjamin Netanyahu, currently embroiled in a corruption scandal that could prevent him becoming Israel’s longest-serving prime minister, is yet to comment on his son’s Facebook post.
