‘American Gods’: Watch the First Trailer for Neil Gaiman Adaptation

Starz released the first trailer of their upcoming series “American Gods” at Friday’s Comic-Con panel. The series is based on the best-selling novel by Neil Gaiman, which mixes the concepts of old gods of traditional mythology and new gods that have risen as society has changed.

Although not present in the trailer, Kristin Chenoweth joined the panel onstage as they announced that she will be joining “American Gods” in the role of Easter. Chenoweth had previously worked with showrunner Bryan Fuller on “Pushing Daisies.”

We get our first good look at Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle) and Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane). Shadow has been released from a three-year prison sentences and learns that his wife has died. He meets Mr. Wednesday on a plane on his way back home for the funeral. We also get glimpses of Shadow’s not-so-dead-wife Laura Moon (Emily Browning).

Also featured in the trailer are Mad Sweeney (Pablo Shreiber), Mr. World (Crispin Glover), Czernobog (Peter Stormare) and Zorya Vechernyaya (Cloris Leachman).

The panel also included Whittle, McShane, Schreiber, Yetide Badaki (Bilquis), and Bruce Langley (Technical Boy), as well as executive producers, showrunners and writers Fuller and Michael Green, director and executive producer David Slade, and author and executive producer Neil Gaiman.

“American Gods” is set to premiere in 2017.
