American Among 14 Dead in Spanish Terror Attacks

At least one American is among 14 casualties in Thursday's terror strikes in Barcelona and the coastal city of Cambrils, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has confirmed.

The U.S. State Department has confirmed that another American citizen suffered minor injuries in the attacks.

"We express our deepest sympathies to the loved ones of this individual, and obviously the others who have suffered loss of life," Tillerson said Friday morning during a press conference. "We offer our thoughts and prayers to their families as they're going to be dealing with a very few tough days ahead of them."

Tillerson added that officials were “still confirming the injuries and deaths of others."

The father of the American who was killed later confirmed that it was his son, Jared Tucker, 42, a swimming pool installer from California, was in Barcelona to mark his one-year wedding anniversary. 

"We just got the text — Jared's body was identified at the morgue by his wife," Daniel Tucker, 76, told the Daily News Friday afternoon. "t's just something we really just don't understand. I don't know what else to say.”

More than 100 people were injured in the Barcelona bloodbath Thursday afternoon, when a van drove into pedestrians in a Las Ramblas, an area popular with tourists.

Hours later, five men in a vehicle drove into pedestrians in Cambrils.

On Friday morning, Spanish authorities shot and killed four people in connection to the incident in Cambrils where at least one pedestrian was killed and seven were injured, according to authorities.

Following Thursday’s terror attacks in Spain, citizens took to the streets of Barcelona, shouting, “No tinc por! (I am not afraid),” in an act of solidarity.

King Felipe VI and Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy, joined the citizens in a vigil to honor the victims.

“Unfortunately, Spaniards know the absurd and irrational pain that terrorism causes,” Rajoy said as he declared three days of mourning. “We have received blows like this in recent years, but we also know that terrorists can be beaten.”

Barcelona’s soccer team, FC Barcelona, said they will wear black arm bands during this weekend’s Spanish league match in tribute to those affected by the attacks. The club also observed a moment of silence during practice Friday.

FC Barcelona's bitter rivals, Real Madrid, also showed solidarity with the city and country by holding a prayer before practice.

Paris, which has faced its own terror attacks in recent years, saw the Eiffel Tower go dim.

One World Trade Center, which rose from the wreckage of the Twin Towers, turned its spire yellow and red, the colors of Spain's flag.
