Police Investigating if Kidnapping of 16-Year-Old Girl in New York Was Staged
The New York Police Department was investigating whether the kidnapping of a 16-year-old girl on Tuesday, December 17, was staged, according to sources cited in multiple media reports, after the girl reportedly told police the kidnapping was a hoax.
An Amber Alert was issued for Karol Sanchez on Tuesday morning. Police said Sanchez and her mother were walking in the vicinity of Eagle Avenue and E 156th Street at around 11.20 pm on Monday when four men in a beige sedan “forced her into their vehicle and fled the scene.”
After later being found unharmed, Sanchez reportedly told police the incident was staged, and stemmed from a difficult relationship with her mother. According to the New York Times, one police official said Karol described her mother as “overprotective.” Credit: NYPD via Storyful
