Amber Alert canceled after reported child abduction in Southwest Virginia

GATE CITY, Va. (WAVY) — An Amber Alert has been canceled after a reported child abduction in Southwest Virginia.

Virginia State Police said the child, 10-month-old Cedar Samuel Griffith, was believed to have been abducted by 30-year-old Ashley Jordan Griffith.

VSP announced just after 7 p.m. that the two were both located safe and the alert was canceled.

The Amber Alert was issued just before 3 p.m. Tuesday on behalf of the Scott County Sheriff’s Office. They said the reported abduction happened around 8:18 p.m. Monday, and the child was last seen on Daniel Boone Road in Gate City.

State Police didn’t release additional additional information about the potential motive and circumstances in the case, or whether Ashley Griffith would be facing charges. Anyone with information in the case is asked to contract the Scott County Sheriff’s Office at 276-386-9111 or State Police.
