Amazon to launch first fulfillment center in New York on Staten Island

Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN)announced on Wednesday that it will open a new fulfillment center in New York's Staten Island that will create 2,250 full-time jobs. It's the first Amazon fulfillment center in New York and will occupy an 855,000-square-foot space in development by Matrix Development Group on the West Shore of Staten Island. Amazon said it will be a "state-of-the-art" facility that will employ humans and robots to help fulfill orders placed on Amazon's website.The location is prime.Staten Island should help Amazon deliver products more easily to highly populated areas such as the other New York City boroughs and surrounding areas in New York and New Jersey. It's also close to three major airports — Newark, LaGuardia and JFK — in addition to Port Newark.Staten Island Borough President James S. Oddo said Amazon's new facility will "be the biggest single job creator in [Staten Island's] history."
