Amarillo Meals on Wheels 'working to fill gap' on discontinued meals

The Meals on Wheels Amarillo organization issued the following statement to media about a transition underway involving some meals provided by Northwest Texas Healthcare System for members of the community:

"We’ve recently learned that Northwest Texas Healthcare System will soon discontinue providing the meals they’ve been preparing each weekday for 180 older adults who receive deliveries from Meals on Wheels. Fortunately, Amarillo is a caring community that supports providing food to older adults who often would not eat without the meals we’re able to bring to them. Our leadership has been working to fill this gap, and we look forward to announcing a solution soon. We are confident there will be no interruption in meal deliveries – OR petfood deliveries – for any of our clients. We are incredibly grateful for the support of all our partners and each of our volunteers and donors who help us meet the nutritional needs of homebound seniors in our community."

The nonprofit organization said they would release more information when they are able to make a further announcement.

Northwest issued the following statement when reached out for comment:

"NWTHS has been meeting with the leadership at Meals on Wheels to identify solutions to support their mission. We appreciate the work that has been done collaboratively and while discussions are occurring, we are focused on our hospital mission of providing quality patient care for those who have medical needs. NWTHS proudly contributes to many non-profit organizations in our community, and we are committed to support Meals on Wheels in other ways."
