Amanda's Chop Shop brings traditional barber services to Wellsville, opens on Main Street

A new red, white and blue barber shop pole is spinning in downtown Wellsville.

Amanda Goerner opened Amanda's Chop Shop at 84 N. Main St. recently, with the Ulysses, Pa. native offering traditional barber shop services for men and boys.

While Wellsville has numerous salons, the Chop Shop is the latest barber shop catering to males only.

The one-chair barber shop is open 11 a.m. until 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Cuts are $15 for men and $10 for boys under 10-years-old. A hot straight razor shave is $15.

Walk-ins are welcome. The shop features a spacious waiting room to relax while waiting.

Appointments can also be booked by calling 814-558-6058.

As far as haircut styles, Goerner said she enjoys doing flattops and bald fades are her favorite.

Meet Amanda Goerner, Wellsville barber shop owner

Goerner is no newcomer to Wellsville, having spent about 11 years as a stylist at Uptown Jam after graduating from beauty school when she was 21, she said.

Goerner decided to focus on men's hair after determining she is better at cutting men's hair than women's.

“I’m very comfortable doing men’s hair. It clicked with me, I guess," Goerner said.

She has operated on her own since around 2017, first opening a shop in Ulysses and then in Stannards for about a year.

Goerner made the move to the North Main Street storefront earlier this month, seeing it as a convenient location for her Wellsville-area regulars.

“They were very faithful in Ulysses when I moved the (shop) there, but this is a lot easier for them," she said.

Steady start for Amanda's Chop Shop

Goerner is optimistic the Chop Shop will make the cut on North Main Street.

"It’s going well. People are slowly finding me, and I do have regulars every day," she said. "It will take a little bit of time, it’s always slow when it starts out.”
