Always’s Empowering New Ad Tugs at the Ol’ Heartstrings

Sanitary napkin purveyor Always has taken a page out of Dove’s playbook with its latest commercial, a follow-up to last year’s “Like a Girl” ad — which has garnered nearly 58.5 million views on Youtube.

Featuring women and girls of all ages, the ad — titled “Unstoppable” — asks the question, “Have you ever been told that, because you’re a girl, you should not do something?” Every participant answers yes, and then writes her “limitations” (”unworthy,” “emotional,” “weak,” etc.) on some large white boxes. Then, they gleefully destroy the boxes their limitations.

Is the commercial cheesy, maudlin, and predicable? Yes, yes, and yes. But I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t feeling a little teary by the end of it. Or maybe that’s just a bit of sand. Who’s to say.
