Altru teams with Blue Cross Blue Shield for new tiered health plan
Oct. 11—GRAND FORKS — A Grand Forks-based health system on Tuesday announced it is working with a large insurance provider to offer what it calls "first-of-its-kind" health care coverage.
According to an announcement from Altru Health System, the new four-tiered DakotaBlue-Altru plan is being launched in partnership with Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota. The plan is intended to deliver "high-quality care at a lower price," BCBSND Chief Maketing Officer Kristi Huber said in a statement sent to the Grand Forks Herald. She said it's "a way for us to challenge health care costs."
On average, the statement noted, premiums are 15% lower than comparable plans with traditional network structures. In the inaugural year, the plan will be available in 11 counties in Altru's coverage area, including Benson, Cavalier, Eddy, Grand Forks, Griggs, Nelson, Pembina, Ramsey, Steele, Towner and Walsh.
"The new plan offers individuals, families and employers (in those counties) coverage that is most affordable when care is received at Altru Health System," the press release said.
"Our vision is to provide world-class care to the residents of our region," said Altru CEO Todd Forkel. "Access to affordable, integrated care is part of that vision."
