ALPLM hosting sensory-friendly event for Autism Awareness Day

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — On Tuesday, the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library & Museum plans to hold a “Sensory-Friendly Evening” for World Autism Awareness Day.

DeWitt Co. Museum hosting first special event of 2024 season

The free event, which will be held from 4 – 6 p.m., focuses on those who may be overwhelmed by intense light, loud sounds, and large crowds. To accommodate, theater and Journey lights will be turned up, sound will be made quieter, and some special effects will be deactivated. A quiet room will also be available.

A packet can be found on the ALPLM’s website that ranks potentially overstimulating areas of the museum, and can be requested by emailing ALPLM.GuestEntry@illinois.gov. That email address may also be contacted for additional accommodations, or you may call 217-558-8844 (TTY/TDD 1-888-440-9009) between 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. daily.
