I, Tonya star Allison Janney arrived at the 2018 Screen Actors Guild Awards in a matte silver paillette-covered gown by Yanina Couture, which featured a mock turtleneck and statement shoulders. Janney, who is nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role, worked with her stylist Tara Swennen for the look—and it turns out, the dress wasn’t always meant to be seen on the SAG Awards red carpet.

“This dress was originally intended for the Globes but was shifted to the SAG Awards to support the Time’s Up movement,” Swennen tells PEOPLE.

For the Globes, in which many women wore black to take a stand against gender inequality and abuse in the workplace, Swennen sourced a Mario Dice dress from the designer’s archived collection. The original gown featured a white and black bodice and a white skirt, but Swennen worked with her tailor to switch the white to black to support the movement.

But for the SAG Awards, she made an entirely different statement—Swennen says it was all about showing off Janney’s strength. The gown “accentuates Allison’s statuesque frame and suits her fearless personality,” says the stylist, who completed the ensemble with H. Stern jewels, a Tyler Ellis clutch and Stuart Weitzman heels.

Janney agreed: “I have a suit of armor on,” she said on the red carpet. “I feel like I’m Kahleesi’s Warrior shaman.”

“We loved that this dress resembles a suit of armor,” Swennen added. “It’s a one-of-a kind piece from an award season capsule collection. I was one of the first to see it and immediately we knew it was meant for Allison. It embodies a strength that she is proud to personify for this specific award season.”

The 24th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards was broadcast live from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on both TNT and TBS.
