Alligator Takes a Stroll Through Nursing School Campus

Sorry, alligator, university grounds are for students only.

A 9-foot-long alligator was caught taking a stroll across an Alcorn State University campus in Natchez, Miss., yesterday afternoon.

“It’s not every day you’re going to class and see an alligator laying in the shrubbery,” said Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten.

According to Patten, nursing students were "shocked" and "hysterical" when they flagged him down.

“I asked them what was going on, and they went to point," Sheriff Patten told InsideEdition.com. “Under the shrubbery, there was a 9-and-a-half-foot alligator laying on the sidewalk.”

He said he immediately called the local game warden and the wildlife and fisheries department to report the incident.

After animal experts were able to wrangle the reptile, two school staff members were able to jump in and lend a helping hand to load the alligator into their vehicle.

“That was probably the most excitement this school has seen in a while,” Sheriff Patten joked.

The alligator was later released into the Mississippi River.
