'An alligator ate my golf ball' is an excuse that's only valid in Florida
Florida: you can golf year round, but there's no guarantee your ball will ever get to the green.
Golfer Dan McNamara was playing a round at Rotunda West when he encountered the gator and watched as it ate a player's ball, then receded into the lake according to WPTV5.
It's a reptilian power move if there's ever been one.
The gator maintains some serious eye contact while chomping down on the ball, but graciously takes it home to eat.

McNamara posted the video with the caption, "Not sure how to play this as it lies. Anyone able to help with the ruling?" which is exactly the kind of light joke you'd expect from someone who spends three to four hours chipping a ball around large reptiles.
